IV therapy delivers fluids, vitamins and other nutrients directly into your bloodstream through a small catheter in a vein. Because it bypasses the digestive system, your body receives the full dose. At Innovation Spine Medical, IV therapy is provided in our office under medical supervision and can be part of your broader care plan.
IV infusion therapy has long been used in hospitals to deliver fluids and medications. In an outpatient setting, it may be used to provide hydration and nutrients to people who could benefit from them.
Before any infusion, a provider reviews your health history and medications to decide whether IV therapy is appropriate and which formulation fits your needs.

Your provider will review your health before recommending IV therapy. It may not be appropriate if you have certain heart or kidney conditions, fluid restrictions or allergies to components of the infusion. Tell your provider about all medications and supplements you take.

You’ll sit comfortably while a small IV catheter is placed in your arm. The infusion drips slowly, and staff monitor you throughout. Many infusions take about 30 to 60 minutes.
The catheter is removed and a small bandage applied. Most people return to their normal activities right away.
IV therapy is generally well tolerated when screened and supervised properly. Possible side effects include bruising or discomfort at the needle site, a cool sensation during the infusion, light-headedness and, rarely, vein irritation, infection or an allergic reaction.
Call our office if you notice pain, redness or swelling at the IV site, chills, a fever, a rash, or light-headedness that doesn’t pass.
Seek emergency care right away if you have trouble breathing, chest pain, swelling of the face or throat, or fainting.
